Surrounded by family, Delbert (Del) W. Dougherty (86), of Lake Louisa QC. passed on April 8, 2025.
Fondly Know as »Poppy », he will be missed by his devoted wife of nearly 65 years, Verna Beauchamp, his two children, Carolyn and Wade (Wendy Kousaie), his grandchildren, (of whom he was so very proud) Avery, Jack, Adrian, Kate, Amy and Emily and grandpuppers, Gus, Finn and Ralphie. Predeceased by his father, Osborne and mother, Hida Bell, his siblings, Durwood (Belva), Dody (Hollis), Vernon (Marion) and Roger (Joan). Born and raised on a farm in Bury, he was fiercely proud of his Eastern Township heritage. Brother-in-law to the Beauchamps, Eric (Emmy), Lynn (Freda), Betty (Walt) and Diane.
His dedication to education (BEd McGill University-1961, MEd University of Vermont-1967) is marked by his 25-year role as Director General of the Laurentian School Board and his commitment to ensuring all children had equal access to quality education.
He will be remembered by his family members, friends, neighbours, golf buddies and co-workers for his direct approach, commitment to action, sense of humour, hearty laugh and his kindness.
The family extends their sincere gratitude for the compassion and navigation provided by the Dialysis Unit and Staff at the Hawkesbury General Hospital.
To honour his memory, a Celebration of life will be held early summer.
You put up a good fight, Poppy. We will miss your interest in healthy debates, your pride in family and sharing how-tos.
